MARTINI

2 parts Dry Gin
1/2 part French Vermouth
Stir with lots of ice, strain and serve with olive or onion.

The classic Martini is a minefield of controversy -- gin vs. vodka, proportion of gin to vermouth, stir vs. shake, etc. For the record, I'm in agreement with the version above. A Martini is always made with gin, not vodka. Four or five parts of gin to one part Vermouth is a good ratio -- any drier and you might as well just drink the gin straight out of the bottle. And a Martini is not a milkshake! It should be stirred (or better yet, lightly swirled), never shaken. End of story.
